Jimmy Breslin, Profiles in Moronacy

I don't care for Hillary Clinton, but Jimmy Breslin uses one of the lamest, most shopworn, tired, and stale statements ever constructed to criticize her politics:
If Hillary Clinton wants this war to go on, then she should send her daughter to fight in Iraq.

Oh, very clever, and fresh too!

Our fighting men and women continue to be 100% adult, 100% volunteer, whatever the Sheehans, Moores, and Breslins of the world pretend to believe. But "she should persuade her daughter to volunteer to fight in Iraq" doesn't have the same punch.

Fortunately for everyone, they are fantastic, brave, adult volunteers, and history will erase the nonsense of the naysayers and doom-and-gloomers.

Your son Dustin is a hero, but the point is that he signed up, you didn't sign him up. It's a pointless argument to say "send your kid and see how you feel" because:

1. They aren't kids.
2. They sign themselves up.

Best of luck to you and your son, and thank him for everyone when he's back.

The point is that if we had a draft half of the chickenhawk cheerleader squad would be in Canada and the other half would be protesting the war. This war is sponsored by individuals whom when they had a chance to fight for this country took extraordinary means to avoid doing just that.
More to the point is that we are forcing our children who have no vote in the matter to pay for this war. If the average conservative chicken hawk’s taxes were going up progressively to pay for this fiasco they would have thrown Dubya’s sorry ass out last November.
